Recreational Opportunities

Winter - The prairie and ski mountains come alive in the winter. In addition to snowboarding, downhill and cat skiing at Soldier Mountain Ski Resort, winter recreational enthusiast enjoys cross country skiing, snowshoeing and hundreds of miles of groomed snowmobiling trails through the Sawtooth Mountain Range.  Backcountry tourists enjoy spotting wildlife and photography.  A variety of events, including snowmobile races,  dog sled races, kite boarding, skijoring and downhill skiing competitions are scheduled throughout the winter season. in town Santa always shows up just after the City Tree Lighting Ceremony. The Historical Society puts on a monthly Dinner Bingo Fundraiser for a warmer activity. February always brings the local branch of the American Legion's Annual Crab feed fundraiser for a coastal treat!

Spring - As the snow melts, green hillsides emerge and the streams and mountain drainage creeks swell from runoff.  Hillsides are covered in wild flowers and the most spectacular event of all... the Camas lilies bloom in the prairie.  The best viewing is in the Centennial Marsh from approximately May 15 - June 15.  

Summer  - It just doesn't get any better than this.  The long days of sunshine provide endless opportunities to hike, bike, golf, fish, camp, bird watch, photograph and sightsee.  Clear and dark skies provide unmatched stargazingCamas Lily days is our weekend we celebrate our indian heritage and the lilies that brought them here.  During this weekend we have a 10 K Fun Run which starts and finishes at the Park (2nd St W). This year over the 4th of July weekend we will be having a 3 band music concert in the American Legion baseball field!

Fall - The activities of summer continue as the air becomes crisper and the beauty of the aspen and cottonwood trees change from green to gold, red and orange.  Big game areas surrounding the prairie are abundant with deer, elk, antelope and bear as hunting season opens.  It is also the time of the county fair,  rodeo, and wagon train.
